Division Name Change

Effective July 18, 2026, the Division of Developmental Disabilities has become the Division of Disability and Aging. This is the result of a legislative change whereas LB733 was incorporated into LB867.

This milestone reflects significant work accomplished over the past five years to bring together multiple programs—including the Aged and Disabled (AD) Waiver, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Waiver, Special Healthcare Needs Programs, and the State Unit on Aging into a unified Division.

This change formally recognizes the collaboration, coordination, and commitment of aligning our work toward a shared goal: Supporting Nebraskans with disabilities and those who are aging, to live in the homes and communities of their choice.

As part of the name change, some of our webpages will have new URLs (addresses). If you have saved webpages, you may find that the links no longer work. Please use this table and save new URLs as necessary.

Any remaining references to the Division of Developmental Disabilities (such as on past communications), should be considered to now refer to the Division of Disability and Aging.

The Division serves as many eligible people as possible, while ensuring their health and safety. Services are provided through three types of programs:

  • Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Waivers,
  • Special Health Care Needs, and
  • State Unit on Aging.
