​​​​​​The organizational s​tructure​ of the Department of Health and Human Services includes a Chief Executive Officer who is appointed by the Governor and subject to confirmation by a majority vote of the members of the Nebraska Legislature.

The department has five divisions: Behavioral Health, Children and Family Services, Developmental Disabilities, Medicaid and Long-Term Care and Public Health.

The directors of the divisions are also appointed by the Governor and subject to confirmation by a majority vote of the members of the legislature. The division directors report to the CEO. A Chief Operating Officer lead operation units that support the Department, also reports to the CEO, as does Communications and Legislative Services, Legal Services, and the Information Systems and Technology sections.
