What is WIC?

• ​WIC is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children
  
• Since 1974, WIC has safeguarded the health and nutrition of women, infants, and children as the nation's premiere "food as medicine" program. WIC's primary goal is to provide supplemental nutrition. 
• WIC foods are nutrient-dense to provide the healthiest start in life for women, infants, and children
  

Who is served by Nebraska WIC?

• Pregnant, post-partum, and breastfeeding women, infants and children up to age five 
  
• Participants qualify for WIC based on income and nutritional risk
  
• All Nebraska WIC participants must live in Nebraska
  
• Around 36,000 served per month

What does WIC provide?

• A monthly nutritious supplemental food package
• Breastfeeding support and peer counseling
• Nutrition and health education
• Referrals to healthcare and community resources like blood-lead testing and vaccinations
• Nebraska was the first state to offer online grocery ordering to participants in partnership with Iowa WIC, Minnesota WIC, and Hy-Vee stores
