This page is for all healthcare facility personnel responsible for reporting birth defects occurring in the state of Nebraska. The links below provide access to the resources and information necessary to ensure the accurate and timely reporting of birth defect occurrences.
All Nebraska birthing hospitals are required to submit reports to the Nebraska Birth Defects Registry regarding infants born at their facilities with birth defects. Reports must be submitted for each impacted infant by the 10th day of the month following birth. For non-birthing hospitals, it is requested that reports be submitted by the 10th day of the month following birth defect diagnosis. See Nebraska Revised Statute 71-648 for further details.
The reportable birth defect codes include all ICD-10 “Q" codes (congenital malformations, deformations, chromosomal abnormalities, and genetic disorders: Q00-QA0), as well as the following additional codes:
- “D" Codes: D18.00-D18.09, D18.1, D82.1
- “E" Codes: E25.0-E25.9, E78.71-E78.72
- “G" Codes: G12.0, G90.1
- “M" Codes: M21.021-M21.029, M21.121-M21.129, M26.00-M26.09
- “P" Codes: P29.30, P29.38, P35.1, P35.4
