Every baby should celebrate their first birthday.
The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is committed to decrease infant mortality and increase the number of babies' first birthday celebrations throughout the state.
Infant Mortality Rate refers to the death of an infant before his or her birthday, and is calculated by the number of infant deaths for every 1,000 live births (Infant Mortality, 2018). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Nebraska's 2016 Infant Mortality Rate is 6.2 per 1,000 live birth, compared to the United States overall rate of 5.9 per 1,000 live births (Infant Mortality Rates by State, 2018).
The overall goal of the Nebraska Safe Babies Campaign is to provide evidence-based education to parents of newborns as well as hospital and clinic staff. Providing a consistent baseline education for all hospital and clinic personnel caring for children under the age of one will provide a consistent, evidence-based message to parents of more than 26,500 newborns across the State.
Please join us in decreasing infant mortality in Nebraska. Every baby should celebrate their first birthday.
