What is a Recovery Friendly Workplace (RFW)?

Recovery Friendly Logo

The Recovery Friendly Workplace Program will provide free training on mental health, substance use, discussing stigmatized topics, and implementing RFW practices into the workplace. Organizations that choose to be designated as an RFW are then provided the resources and support they need to foster a supportive environment that encourages the success of their employees at no cost.

Why become a Recovery Friendly Workplace?

  • There is a need for substance use supports in the workplace: 1 in 12 (or roughly 8.5%) employed persons struggle with addiction.
  • Employees in recovery are more reliable: On average, employees in recovery miss 13.7 fewer shifts than those with a substance use disorder, and 3.6 fewer shifts than those who aren't struggling.
  • Your employees are looking to you for help: 87% of employees think that actions from their employer can help with stress, burnout, and depression.

Outcomes for participating workplaces may include:

  • Increased productivity
  • Healthier employees
  • Less absenteeism/turnover
  • Greater employee satisfaction
  • A more supportive culture
  • Increased morale
  • Improved communication
  • Increased customer loyalty
