We hope to reduce the stigma and misconceptions that cloud public understanding of mental and substance use disorders.
Sheri Dawson, director of the Division of Behavioral Health

The Division of Behavioral Health and Office of Consumer Affairs proudly supports Mental Health Awareness month during the month of May. We want to help spread the word that mental health is something each one of us should care about and work to decrease the stigma that surrounds behavioral health challenges. We also want to take this opportunity to highlight the invaluable role of our Certified Peer Support Specialists in providing support, resources, and promoting and helping to sustain recovery.

1 in 5 adults in the US experience mental illness and 1 in 25 US adults experience serious mental illness.

As the last year has been challenging for us, we want to emphasize that if you are struggling there is help available and you are not alone.

We invite anyone who has been impacted by mental health, either as a consumer, provider, or loved one, to share a story of recovery, resiliency and hope. If you have not been impacted directly by mental health, please feel free to share words of encouragement and support to those that have. Remember, prevention works, treatment is effective, and RECOVERY IS POSSIBLE.
