Join us on Friday, September 18, 2026 for the Future of Stroke Care: Balancing Innovation, Access and Sustainability Stroke Conference.  Join stroke care providers from EMS, acute care, rehabilitation, outpatient, and community services for an interprofessional conference focused on coordinated, patient-centered stroke management. Through expert presentations, simulations, case discussions, and panels, you'll explore emerging technologies, mental health and psychosocial needs, rural outreach, population health, and cross-setting communication strategies. Enhance collaboration, teamwork, and care transitions to improve outcomes for stroke survivors and their caregivers.​
Registration and Conference Details

The Stroke System of Care Act passed in 2016 established the Stroke System of Care to provide patients​ with the highest quality of care and ensure a seamless transition with all medical personnel involved in the care of the patient.  Stroke is one of the leading causes of death in Nebraska and the leading cause of disability in the US. 

​The Stroke System of Care designates hospitals as a stroke centers.  Every non-designated hospital is required to provide certification for stroke care to be collected and distributed.

What is a Stroke:​​

A stroke occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is suddenly interrupted or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts, spilling blood into the spaces surrounding brain cells. Brain cells die when they no longer receive oxygen and nutrients from the blood or there is sudden bleeding into or around the brain. It is the No. 5 cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the United States. 80 percent of strokes are preventable.

  • sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of body
  • sudden confusion or trouble speaking or understanding speech
  • sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
  • sudden trouble with walking, dizziness, or loss of balance or coordination
  • sudden severe headache with no known cause. ​
