The Division of Public Health brings together all the elements of public health within the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
This Division is responsible for preventive and community health programs and services. It is also responsible for the regulation and licensure of health-related professions and occupations, as well as the regulation and licensure of health care facilities and services.
Medicaid and Long-Term Care (MLTC) oversees the Nebraska Medicaid program, home and community based services, and the State Unit on Aging.
Medicaid provides health care services to low-income families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Home and community-based services are available to those who qualify for Medicaid waivers, such as the elderly, adults and children with disabilities, and infants and toddlers with special needs. The State Unit on Aging works with public and private service providers to help people live in their preferred settings and be active in their communities.
The mission of the Division of Children and Family Services is to provide the least disruptive services when needed, for only as long as needed to give children the opportunity to succeed as adults, help the elderly and disabled live with dignity and respect and help families care for themselves. Our mission will result in healthier families and safer, more prosperous communities.
DHHS offers financial assistance to students currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with social work degree programs.
As the designated single state mental health and substance use authority, the Division administers, provides funding and oversight for a community-based prevention, treatment and recovery support system. The Division is charged to plan, organize, coordinate and budget for a statewide system of care for individuals and families that need public mental health and substance use disorder services.
The Division of Behavioral Health's mission is to provide leadership and resources for a system of care that promotes and facilitates resilience and recovery for Nebraskans.
The Division of Developmental Disabilities provides funding and oversight for Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Waivers. This includes determining eligibility, providing service coordination for eligible people, monitoring services, and paying providers.
DHHS couldn't operate without backend support from a variety of departments all working together to “Help Nebraskan's Live Better Lives"
