Who are Family Finding Specialists?
Family Finding is a statewide team that identifies, locates, and engages relatives and other supportive adults who can provide lifelong connections and permanency for children and youth involved in the child welfare system. The goal is to improve safety, permanency, and well-being by ensuring every child has enduring family relationships and a supportive network that extends beyond their time in foster care. You may have received a letter from DHHS asking how you can help. View a sample letter.
How can I help?
You can support youth in care in a variety of ways-such as:
- Providing placement,
- Supporting reunification efforts,
- Creating permanency opportunities,
- Offering emotional support and a sense of belonging,
- Attending visits and gatherings,
- Making phone calls or sending birthday cards,
- Respite care or assisting with transportation,
- Assisting in identifying other family members that could provide placement or support.
