Lincoln, NE – The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Office of Economic Assistance (OEA), Child Care and Development Fund Program has issued a Request for Applications (RFA) for an Intergenerational Care Facility Incentive Grant, with a total of $200,000 available.

This program provides a one-time startup or expansion grant of up to $100,000. This funding opportunity is open to nonprofit and proprietary (for-profit) nursing homes or assisted living facilities to develop Intergenerational Child Care Services as outlined in Neb. Rev. Stat. § 81-3145 (Sec. 2). Grants will be awarded to eligible facilities operating in Nebraska until all allocated funds are awarded.

These funds can be used for structural modifications, outdoor campus improvements, the purchase of child care equipment and supplies, or any combination of such purposes. By fostering intergenerational connections, the initiative enhances the well-being of both elderly residents and young children while addressing service gaps under the Medical Assistance Act.

All entities that apply for this funding must meet the following requirements:

  • Must provide documentation that the applicant is a nursing home as defined in Neb. Rev. Stat. § 38-2421 or an assisted living facility as defined in Neb. Rev. Stat. § 71-5903.
  • A facility must not have previously received a grant under Neb. Rev. Stat. § 81-3145.
  • Must provide documentation that the facility has not been cited for substandard quality of care during its most recent survey, as required under Neb. Rev. Stat. § 81-3145.
  • Must provide certification to participate in Medicare or Medicaid.
  • Must provide a plan describing how the grantee plans to participate in the quality rating and improvement system described in Neb. Rev. Stat. § 71-1956 within three years after the date the grant is awarded.

Until final grants are awarded, a copy of the RFA, amendments or addenda, and other information about this RFA is posted at https://dhhs.ne.gov/Pages/Grant-Opportunities.aspx under “Grant Funding Opportunity Announcements."
