Effective December 1, 2023, Shannon Grotrian began the role of Director of the Office of Economic Assistance (OEA).
She has spent her entire career in public service dedicated to serving low-income families. She began her career as a case aide in the CFS Division in 2001. From there, she was promoted within Economic Assistance as an Eligibility Technician, Social Service Worker (SSW), SSW Supervisor, Program Manager, Programs Administrator, and Deputy Director. She spent two years at the Nebraska Department of Labor (NDOL) overseeing their employment and training programs, giving her insight into the connections between Economic Assistance and Workforce programs. She is passionate about Economic Mobility and ensuring all Nebraskans have the tools to achieve economic self-sufficiency.
Shannon has worked in the Quality Control, Eligibility Operations, and Programs areas of EA, which gave her a great understanding of many functions within EA and how the overall system works together.
She holds a master's degree from Doane University, majoring in Management with an emphasis in Project Management, a bachelor's degree in Applied Psychology and Human Services from the College of Saint Mary, and an associate's degree in Human Service from Southeast Community College.
