Lincoln, NE – Starting November 4, Nebraska's Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards will have the capability to block purchases made outside of the state in an effort to help protect Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and recipients.
The out-of-state blocking includes both in-person purchases across state lines and online orders with out-of-state delivery or pickup locations. This safety feature helps prevent fraud by enabling the EBT card to stop unauthorized EBT transactions in other states, which scammers often do with stolen EBT card information.
All EBT recipients will have the option to turn off out-of-state blocking when needed, particularly for individuals who live near a state border. The blocking feature will reset to “on" at the end of each calendar month and must be manually turned off by the recipient to resume allowing out-of-state purchases.
To manage this setting, recipients can:
- Visit the ebtEDGE website at https://www.ebtedge.com or the ebtEDGE app, available for both iOS and Android devices. Select your active card, click “Settings" in the top-right corner, and select “Transaction Restrictions" to update this feature; or
- Call the EBT Customer Service Line at 877-247-6328. Follow the prompts to the main menu, select “Card Security," and select the appropriate option for your requested change.
