Lincoln, NE – Governor Jim Pillen signed a proclamation recognizing August 9 to 15, 2026, as National Health Facility Surveyor Week in Nebraska. This proclamation highlights the essential role health facility surveyors play in protecting patients and supporting high standards of care in healthcare settings throughout the state.

Health facility surveyors inspect and evaluate a wide range of healthcare providers, including hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, outpatient care centers, ambulatory surgical centers, and other licensed and certified facilities. Their work helps ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, safeguards patient rights, and promotes continuous quality improvement.

"Health facility surveyors are a vital part of Nebraska's healthcare system," said Dr. Timothy Tesmer, DHHS Chief Medical Officer. “Their expertise and professionalism give patients and families confidence that the facilities they rely on are committed to providing safe, effective care."

Nebraska's team of 60 health facility surveyors interacts with more than 1,200 healthcare facilities statewide. In 2025, surveyors conducted 1,913 surveys, ensuring healthcare facilities maintain compliance with state and federal standards while supporting safe, high-quality care for Nebraskans.

The work of health facility surveyors extends beyond regulatory oversight. Through education, technical guidance, and collaboration with healthcare facilities, surveyors help facilities strengthen practices that improve patient outcomes and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

“Thank you to Nebraska's health facility surveyors for their continued service and commitment to excellence in healthcare," said Dr. Tesmer. “While much of their work happens behind the scenes, they have a vital impact on patients, families, and communities across our state."
