What you need to know

Therapeutic Family Care (TFC) was implemented in Nebraska to support youth who are in the higher tiers of foster care and are in need of additional crisis services. The intended outcome of the TFC program is to provide care coordination and crisis behavioral health services to allow these youth to remain in the community and prevent more restrictive, facility care.

TFC has 2 components: Care Coordination provided by the CFS TFC Care Coordination team, and Crisis Behavioral Health Services provided through Medicaid enrolled providers. Youth who are eligible for TFC will be assigned both a CFS Care Coordinator and that Care Coordinator will work with the family to identify a crisis provider to be accessible to them 24/7.

The CFS Care Coordination component of TFC began in January 2024 and the Medicaid enrollment process for Crisis Behavioral Health providers will begin in March, with access to start in April 2024. There are 2 new Medicaid services within this TFC program – Crisis Support and Maintenance and Crisis Mobile Response.

More information about TFC Care Coordination, the assessment process for eligibility, the Medicaid Crisis services, how to enroll as a Crisis provider and the rate/billing structure are all included in the linked document
