2024 Nebraska State Plan for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families - Draft

The State of Nebraska's Department of Health and Human Services is accepting public comments on the proposed 2024 Nebraska State Plan Renewal for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program​. The public comment period will begin January 2, 2024, and end February 15, 2024.

Nebraska's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Work Verification Plan (October 2021)

Employment First is the nam​e of Nebraska's welfare reform program. The primary purpose of Employment First is to provide temporary, transitional support for Nebraska families so that economic self-sufficiency is attained in as expeditious a manner as possible through the provision of training, education, and employment preparation. ​View the TANF Work Verification Plan​.​

What you should know:
  • Adults who are able to work are provided services through the Employment First (EF) program, to assist them in gaining and maintaining employment.
  • ADC families where the parent(s) are capable of attaining independence are limited to receiving 60 months of cash assistance in a lifetime. The time period begins with the first month a family receives ADC.
  • Families where the adults are not the parent of the child, the parent is disabled or otherwise found to be unable to work are not time-limited. 
  • Adults who receive ADC are required to cooperate with Child Support Enforcement in relation to any parents who are absent from the home.
