What you need to know

The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) is a federal program administered by the USDA. DHHS manages the program in Nebraska including the distribution of USDA donated foods and administrative funding.

TEFAP helps supplement the diets of low-income Americans by providing them with healthy foods at no cost.  Under TEFAP, recipients of food for home use must meet program eligibility criteria set by DHHS.

Donated food is made available through two Nebraska food banks that distribute to food pantries and other non-profit recipient agencies.  These community partners then distribute donated foods to qualifying households or use donated foods for preparing meals.

Individuals seeking assistance can find distribution sites by contacting the food banks directly.
