What you need to know

​​​​​​The Disabled Children's Program (DCP) serves children with disabilities by assisting with payments of non-medical services and supports. Services are determined based on an assessment of needs and shown in a jointly developed plan with the family.

Who may be eligible for this program?

  • Eligible people are:
    • Ages birth through 15 years old;
    • Have current pay SSI status;
    • A Nebraska resident; and 
    • Live at home with their families.

What services may be available?

  • Respite care (“short break" for primary caregivers)
  • Mileage reimbursement for long-distance or frequent medical trips
  • Accessibility modifications   

The Disabled Children's Program cannot duplicate services provided by other resources. In addition, supportive services for routine health care are not covered.

How do I apply for the Disabled Children's Program?

An application can be requested from any Department of Health and Human Services local office.
