Healthcare providers play an essential part in ensuring all patients remain up-to-date with immunizations, regardless of age. Healthcare providers serve as the most trusted resource concerning vaccination information. It is important that healthcare providers are confident and knowledgable in immunizations to provide effective recommendations and care.

Child and Adolescent Vaccines

As children get older, protection from some childhood vaccines begins to wane. Older children also become at risk for other diseases. Health check-ups and sports or camp physicals can be a good opportunity for your preteens and teens to receive age-appropriate vaccines.

Adult Vaccines

Adult vaccination rates are extremely low, as most adults are unaware they need vaccinations after childhood. Recommendations from healthcare professionals is the strongest influence of whether patients get vaccinated.

The National Vaccine Advisory Committee (NVAC) revised the Standards for Adult Immunization Practice in 2013. These updated Standards call on ALL healthcare professionals – whether they provide vaccinations or not – to take steps to help ensure that their adult patients are fully immunized. Standards for Adult Immunization Practice

Information Statements (VIS) & Proxy Forms

Vaccine Information Statements (VIS) are information sheets produced by the  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A VIS will explain both the benefits and risks of a vaccine to adult vaccine recipients and the parents or legal representatives of children or adolescents receiving vaccines. Federal law requires that a VIS is provided prior to each time a vaccine is given.

Current Vaccine Information Statements

VIS Proxy form allows for a single signature verifying that VIS were received for multiply vaccines.

Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS)

Vaccines are developed with the highest standards of safety. As with any medical procedure, vaccination can have potential risks.  The National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act (NCVIA) requires health care providers to report adverse events (possible side effects) that occur following vaccination. The Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) is a national passive reporting system that accepts reports from the public on adverse events associated with vaccines licensed in the United States.

Nebraska State Immunization Information System (NESIIS)

The Nebraska State Immunization Information System (NESIIS) is a system that can assist providers with vaccine inventory, make recommendations about needed vaccinations and can provide access to a patient's immunization history.

All VFC providers are required to utilize NESIIS for ordering vaccine, monitoring and adjusting inventory.

Annual re-enrollment for all VFC, AIP and Hepatitis B birth dose providers will be completed through NESIIS.
