Lincoln – Previously, as per federal guidelines, child care providers could not bill for children who qualify for subsidy and are remote learning while attending a child care program. Understanding that this would negatively impact providers who rely on this subsidy and parents who work during the day the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) sought additional guidance from the Administration of Children and Families (ACF) to allow for an exception for providers to bill for remote learners.
On August 10th DHHS received additional guidance from ACF allowing providers to bill child care subsidy for the time they are assisting children with remote learning. This is effective immediately. Providers that have questions should reach out to DHHS at dhhs.ccsubsidy@Nebraska.gov.
This change of guidance will help make sure that parents can return to work while their children participate in remote learning when in care. Parents who are still looking for child care can visit https://www.nechildcarereferral.org/. If you are not currently a provider and are interested in providing child care for school aged children please contact (531) 739-2224.
Child Care providers looking for additional information can read Child Care Subsidy Frequently Asked Questions on the DHHS website at: http://dhhs.ne.gov/Pages/COVID-19-Nebraska-Guidance-Documents.aspx. Providers should also look into applying for either the Child Care Stabilization Fund or the Incentive to Reopen Programs Fund to help shoulder costs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Interested providers can visit https://www.nebraskachildren.org/childcare-providers-covid-19-information-and-resources.html to apply. Applications will be open until September 30, 2020.
