Asbestos contains a group of six fibrous minerals: actinolite, amosite, anthophyllite, chrysotile, crocidolite, and tremolite. Naturally occurring in some rocks and soil, fibers vary in length and may be curled or straight. They are resistant to heat and most chemicals. Because of this, asbestos fibers have been used in a wide variety of manufactured goods mostly in building materials, friction products and heat-resistant fabrics.
