Lincoln – The National Child Welfare Workforce Institute has designated September as Child Welfare Workforce Development Month and to celebrate the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Division of Children and Family Services (CFS) wishes to recognize the important role Nebraska's child welfare workforce has in supporting vulnerable Nebraskans across the state.

Nebraska's child welfare workforce spans many different professions and institutions but they all dedicate themselves to children that need them in Nebraska. To recognize this critical workforce, Governor Ricketts held a press conference with CFS Director Stephanie Beasley and Deputy Director for Protection and Safety Dr. Alger Studstill, along with several child welfare staff who accepted the proclamation.

CFS Director Stephanie Beasley spoke about how the work of Nebraska's child welfare workforce impacts children and families saying, “the commitment child welfare staff have to children and families in our state is reflected in the outcomes. Nebraska continues to rank in the top ten states for child well-being as measured by a national leader, Casey Family Programs."

Dr. Alger Studstill spoke about his personal experiences in child welfare saying, “I would like to personally thank all of the amazing child welfare staff for the work they do every day to support children and families. Working in child welfare is often a thankless, yet critical job. When I worked on the front lines of child welfare I made memories and friendships that will last me a lifetime. I hope all of our teammates get a chance to make those same kinds of memories and friendships"

Additionally, Director Beasley shared the rollout of several new child welfare programs authorized by the Families First Prevention Services Act. Learn more about the rollout of the Families First Prevention Services Act in Nebraska here.
