Mental Health and Social Work Practice

Application Requirements (Social Work Practice)

 

NOTE: Please review the application instructions carefully as they provide additional information relating to the requirements to obtain a license.


Provisionally Certified Master Social Worker (PCMSW): (This certificate applies only to persons earning experience in Nebraska towards the CMSW)

  • Have received at least a master's degree in social work from an approved educational program.
  • Have a designated supervisor (CMSW).


Certified Master Social Worker (CMSW):
 
A Certificate as a MSW is not required in Nebraska to provide social work services.  However, if you wish to use the title ‘social worker’, you must hold a Nebraska issued CMSW or CSW.

MSW Requirements:
  • Have a master's or doctorate degree in social work from an approved CSWE education program.
  • Have completed at least 3,000 hours of post master’s experience in the practice of social work as defined in 172 NAC 94-002 (definition of social work), under the supervision of a certified master social worker. The hours must have been earned following receipt of the master's or doctorate degree.
  • Have passed either the Advanced or Clinical Social Work examination administered by the American Association of State Social Work Boards (ASWB) with a scaled score of 75 or higher.


Certified Social Worker (CSW):

  • Have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from an approved CSWE education program. Have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from an approved CSWE education program.
