Expanded Scope Function Application
& Requirements

Dental Assistants can apply for the following expanded scope functions to be added to their dental assistant license after completing an educational course for each expanded scope function: 
  • Dental Impressions for Fixed Prosthodontics
  • Dental Impressions and Minor Adjustments for Removable Prostheses
  • Cement Prefabricated Fixed Prostheses on Primary Teeth
  • Monitoring and Administration of Nitrous Oxide

Approved courses are courses given by a Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA) accredited dental assisting programs or a CODA accredited dental hygiene program.

Supervising licensed dentist must be physically on premises during procedure.
 
Dental Hygienists can apply for the following expanded functions to be added to their dental hygiene license after completing an education course for each expanded scope function:
  • Interim Therapeutic Restorations
  • Write Prescriptions for Mouth Rinses and Fluoride Products
  • Monitor, Administration and Titrate Nitrous Oxide

Approved courses are courses given by a Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA) accredited dental hygiene program.

Dental Hygienists who hold a Public Health Authorization for Treating Children and are applying to have the following expanded scope functions added to their dental hygiene license will have them added to their Public Health Authorization also:
  • Interim Therapeutic Restoration
  • Write Prescriptions for Mouth Rinses and Fluoride Products 

Dental Hygienists who hold a Public Health Authorization for Treating Children and Adults and are applying to have the following expanded scope functions added to their dental hygiene license will have them added to their Public Health Authorization also:

  • Interim Therapeutic Restoration
  • Write Prescriptions for Mouth Rinses and Fluoride Products 
  • Make Minor Denture Adjustments 

Supervising licensed dentist must be physically on premises during procedure.
