Did you know that a newborn baby's stomach is only about the size of a walnut? Because their stomach is so small it is normal for a newborn to feed often (every 1.5 to 3 hours). Many new moms just need reassurance that their infants feeding schedule is no different than other breastfed infants.
The staff of your WIC clinic are there for you, to answer any questions you might have. WIC staff are trained to help moms with breastfeeding questions and offer needed support.
Breast milk is the only thing baby needs for the first 6 months. Your breast milk changes over time to meet your baby's needs. At 6 months breastfed babies receive iron fortified cereal, baby food fruits and vegetables.
Breastfeeding mothers also receive extra foods to nourish mom at this important time. Click below to view the food packages.
