State Statutes & Policies

In 2006, the Nebraska Legislature passed a law requiring hospitals, birthing centers and other medical facilities to present a video and reading materials to new parents. 
The educational materials discuss the dangers of shaking a baby and sudden infant death.

The law also requires that the video and the reading materials be approved by the Department of Health and Human Services. The complete language for this law can be found in Nebraska Revised Statutes, Section 71-2103.
