Consuming a diet high in fruits and vegetables is associated with a decreased risk of many chronic diseases, aids in weight management, and provides individuals with a variety of important nutrients.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Guide recommends eating 2 to 6 1/2 cups of fruits and vegetables per day depending on age, sex, and activity level. Unfortunately, fewer than 1 in 10 Americans consume the recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables.
