Physical activity is beneficial for the prevention of diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease, and helps reduce risk factors associated with these many diseases and conditions.
Adults ages 18-64 should do muscle strengthening activities on 2 or more days per week PLUS 150 minutes per week of moderate physical activity OR 75 minutes per week of vigorous physical activity OR an equivalent combination of moderate and vigorous phsyical activity. Children and adolescents should do 60 minutes or more of physical activity every day.
Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans
In 2008, the Federal Government issued its first-ever Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. They describe the types and amounts of physical activity that offer substantial health benefits to Americans.
