Nebraska Hygienist Survey Information
Dear Nebraska Dental Hygienist:
I am writing on behalf of Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Oral Health and Dentistry to invite you to participate in the 2010 Dental Hygienists Public Health Questionnaire. The purpose of this questionnaire, conducted by the Health Professions Tracking Service (HPTS), is to examine Nebraska’s available oral health workforce. Your answers are important and will enable us to evaluate dental hygienist resources and availability throughout the State of Nebraska.
Your answers will remain completely confidential. This questionnaire also satisfies the requirement for dental hygienists who have received their Public Health Authorization to complete an annual report.
The Office of Oral Health and Dentistry (OOHD) recently received a federal grant that is designed to expand oral health care services for children from birth to eight years of age. As a result, in the fall of 2010 OOHD will provide funding opportunities for oral health programs at the local level in nontraditional public health settings. Our goal is to link communities applying for funding with dental hygienists who are interested in participating in public health programs serving young children who otherwise do not have access to oral health care.
One opportunity for dental hygienists to facilitate participation is through the Public Health Authorization Permit.
The Public Health Authorization Permit provides dental hygienists authorization to provide independent oral health preventive services for children in a public health setting. Currently, the State of Nebraska has 37 dental hygienists with Public Health Authorization Permits.
More information regarding application for the Public Health Authorization Permit can be found at http://www.nedha.org
, under the heading Public Health RDH.
Thank you in advance for your participation in this important project. If you have any questions about the administration of the survey, please contact Suzanne Forkner, Dental Health Coordinator, Office of Oral Health and Dentistry at 402-471-1495 or firstname.lastname@example.org
