Swimming Pool Operators

Every Class A (municipality type pool) swimming pool shall be under the immediate supervision of a Nebraska swimming pool operator who shall be held responsible for compliance with all provisions of the regulations relating to equipment, pool operation and maintenance, and safety of bathers. Every Class B (motel, hotel, apartment type pool) and Class F (fitness facility type pool) swimming pool must have a Nebraska swimming pool operator available (within 60 minutes of the facility).  The certified operator must supervise the operation of the water treatment facilities to insure safe water, both from a physical and bacterial standpoint. Daily records of the pool operation including attendance, chemicals used, disinfectant residuals, pH, equipment maintenance, and accidents, must be maintained.

Requirements for Certification

To qualify for certification as a Swimming Pool Operator, you must:

  1. Complete the swimming pool operator’s training clinic and pass the swimming pool operator’s examination with a score of at least 70%;
  2. Pay the examination/certification fee of $40.00; and
  3. Complete the examination form indicating age, date of birth, social security number, and address.

Examination Requirements

The swimming pool operator training clinic and examination take about 4 hours. The clinic and examination are administered and proctored by the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health, Drinking Water and Environmental Health Unit. To attend the clinic and take the examination call Janell Miller at (402) 471-6435. The cost of the examination is $40.00 payable at the time of the clinic. The examination consists of 50 questions.

Renewal Information

Swimming pool operator’s certificates are valid for a 2-year period, expiring two years after the date of  issuance of the certificate. If you wish to renew your current certificate, contact Janell Miller at (402) 471-6435 to attend the training clinic and/or take the examination.

Duplicates/Reissue

Duplicates: A duplicate small license card may be requested at the time of initial licensure.

Reissue: A small license card may be reissued when the licensee requests: additional documents; replacement of original document(s) due to loss, mutilation or destruction; or replacement of document(s) due to a name change.

Certification and Verification information can be obtained by checking the website at: www.dhhs.ne.gov/lis/lisindex.htm

OR

To request either a certification or verification or your license to be sent to another state licensing agency, send your request in writing along with the proper fee to the our office. Checks should be made payable to the Licensure Unit.

Certification

  2. Certification includes:
    1. Name

    4. Issuance date
    5. Expiration date
    6. Whether the license was granted by examination, waiver, or reciprocity
    7. Examination information, if available
    8. Whether disciplinary action has been taken against the license. If so, the type(s) and date(s) of the action will be included.
    9. SEAL of the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services

Verification

  1. Fee - $5.00
  2. Verification includes:
    1. Name
    2. Profession
    3. License Number
    4. Expiration Date
    5. Department Staff Signature

A verification does not include the SEAL of the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services nor information relating to discipline, or examination.
