Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse
Refresher Course

Applicants for licensure by endorsement, renewal, or reinstatement who have not practiced as a nurse for 500 hours within the past 5 years or who have not graduated within the past 5 years must take a refresher course in order to meet the continued competency requirement for licensure. A Board approved refresher course must consist of a least 45 contact hours of theory and at least 30 contact hours of clinical. You will need to obtain a temporary refresher permit for the clinical portion of the refresher course.

In order to obtain the temporary refresher permit you will need to fill out the Application for Reinstatement of a Nursing License (if you have been licensed as a nurse in Nebraska  in the past) or the Application for Nursing (if you are an endorsement applicant). Once you start the didactic portion of the refresher course, you should start the application process.

Along with the application and fee, we need a letter from the school that you are taking your refresher course through indicating that you are enrolled. We also will need a letter from the school that states the beginning and ending clinical dates. After you have successfully completed the course, we need a photocopy of your completion certificate provided by the course provider.
