Initial Licensure/Provisional License

Instructions for Applying For a Provisional Family Child Care Home II License

Family Child Care Home II’s are required to have pre-licensing inspections before they can begin operation. Once the Department receives a application from a licensee wishing to begin operation as a Family Child Care Home II, a referral will be made to the appropriate Fire Marshal. All Family Child Care Home II’s must have an approved fire safety inspection and be in compliance with all regulations before a license can be issued.

Once the Department receives the Fire Marshal approval and conducts the pre-licensing inspection to verifiy compliance with all regulations, a provisional license will be issued. Provisional licenses are issued to all newly licensed providers for the first year of operation. This license may be extended for one six month period.

Applying for an Operating License

Once a family Child Care Home II license has completed a provisional license year and is in compliance with regulations, they must apply for a non-expiring, operating license if htey wish to continue to provide licensed child care. License's will receive written notice 90 days prior to the expiration of the provisional license.

Instructions for Applying for an Operating Family Child Care Home II License

Once a non-expiring license is issued, Family Child Care Home II providers do not need to renew their license. The license will remain in effect until the program closes or the Department revokes the license due to serious violation of regulations. Licensees, however, need to send in appropriate license fees each year to maintain the operating license.
