Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is focusing prevention efforts to reduce drug overdoses.  Efforts are being focused to increase awareness about naloxone which includes what it is, how to access, and how to administer the drug.
Naloxone, an opiate antidote, is an antagonist that blocks or reverses the effects of opioid medication, including extreme drowsiness, slowed breathing, or loss of consciousness.  Naloxone is used to treat opioid overdose in an emergency situation.
