Public Health Data Inventory

Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)

STD MIS is a database that allows the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services' STD program to report STD morbidity to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The database is also used to capture disease investigator efforts and assist in investigations. These reports are intended as a reference document for policymakers, program managers, health planners, researchers, and others who are concerned with the public health implications of these diseases.

Type of Data

The data are population-based for point-in-time study.

Data Collection Method and Availability

The information is not captured or entered into a web-based program, it is entered at the central office at the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services and at the Douglas County Health Department and the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department. The information is then downloaded to the central office, collected into a file, which is then sent to the CDC for reporting. The data have been collected for 15 years in real-time.
