Outdoor Air Quality


Monitoring is conducted to demonstrate attainment with the Environmental Protection Agency's national ambient air quality standards. The pollutants monitored are nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), carbon monoxide (CO), Ozone, PM2.5, PM10, total reduced sulfur (TRS) and Lead. Primarily Omaha and Lincoln monitor for most pollutants on this list. Also monitored are PM2.5 and PM10 in Scottsbluff, Grand Island, Gothenberg, Cozad and Weeping Water.

Type of Data

The data are ambient air quality data for ongoing surveillance.

Data Collection Method and Availability

The Air Quality Index (AQI) is calculated daily from ambient levels of ozone, carbon monoxide and particulate matter with a diameter of 2.5 microns or less. Some data are captured hourly; most are daily samples.
