Online Reporting of Nebraska Reportable Antimicrobial-resistant Organisms (ORNAO)


Physicians, hospitals, and laboratories are required by Nebraska state law (§ 71-501 to 71-514.05, 71-531 to 71-532, and 71-1626) to submit reports of communicable diseases and other situations that pose a threat to public health. Reports are be submitted by mail, telephone, fax or other secure electronic systems. Nebraska reportable antibiotic-resistant organisms are reported monthly using a tabular summary reporting form. Online Reporting of Nebraska Reportable Antimicrobial-resistant Organisms (ORNAO) provides laboratories a convenient way to send reports. Laboratories are able to view their submitted reports and generate specific reports based on selected search criteria.

Data Collection Method and Availability

Data are collected from ORNAO via an online data collection form. All hospital laboratory positive isolates, from all body sites, of Methicillin-resistant S. aureus & Vancomycin intermediate and resistant S. aureus, Vancomycin-resistant and intermediate enterococci, Penicillin-resistant and intermediate Strep pneumonia are required to be reported. On a monthly basis, hospital laboratories log into ORNAO to report. The data have been collected monthly since 2001.
