FARS is a nationwide census providing the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Congress and the American public yearly data regarding fatal injuries suffered in motor vehicle traffic crashes.

Data Collection Method and Availability
FARS collects detailed information on motor vehicle traffic fatalities, including over 130 data fields for each driver/vehicle in a crash. Data are collected from police crash reports, Blood Alcohol Content reports, death certificates, and other sources. Data have been collected annually since 1975.
