Department of Health and Human Services to Hold Hearing November 10 on Proposed Changes to Regulations on Adoptions

Lincoln – The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Division of Public Health is holding a hearing to accept comments on proposed regulations related to information about the biological parents of adoptees. The hearing will be held November 10, 10:00 a.m., in the Nebraska State Office Building, 301 Centennial Mall South, Lower Level, Conference Room A, in Lincoln.
The proposed regulations are in response to Legislative Bill 124, enacted in 2011. They will add that the cultural history of the biological parents be included on the medical history form available to adoptees and their adoptive parents. Such information includes race/ethnicity, nationality, tribe if applicable, or other cultural history of both biological parents, if available.
Anyone may attend and comment at a hearing or submit comments in writing. Written comments will be given the same consideration as comments made in person.
