HIPAA 5010 Frequently Asked Questions
When will SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) submission be required?
Effective 8-15-2011, all Trading Partners must exchange files with Nebraska Medicaid using SFTP standards. The EDI Helpdesk has sent to all current Trading Partners a logon and password to submit via SFTP. See the Submission Guide at www.dhhs.ne.gov//medicaid/Documents/SFTP.pdf. Please contact the EDI Helpdesk with questions.
When will Dial-Up submission no longer be accepted?
August 14, 2011 will be the last day to submit using Dial-Up.
What if we are unable to make the transition from Dial-up to SFTP by the August 14, 2011 deadline?
If you are unable to meet the August 14th date, please contact the EDI Help Desk by July 22, 2011. The EDI Help Desk will work with your organization during this transition.
Will Nebraska Medicaid enroll and test 4010 transactions until 5010 is implemented on 1-1-2012?
No, effective October 1, 2011, Trading Partners will not be allowed to sign-up for or test 4010 transactions.
Are you currently supporting version 5010 837?
No, Nebraska Medicaid will begin supporting version 5010 837 effective January 1, 2012.
When will Trading Partner testing be available for 5010 837?
The anticipated date for Trading Partner 837 testing is September 2011.
Do you require 837 & 835 remittance testing to occur at the same time?
Testing of the 837 claim and 835 remittances at the same time is preferred.
Will you be able to support both 4010 and 5010 versions until 01/01/2012?
No, the X12 HIPAA version 4010 will be supported only until December 31, 2011.
X12 HIPAA version 5010 will be supported beginning January 1, 2012.
Will new paperwork/enrollment be necessary to convert to 5010 837?
Yes, we expect to have new Trading Partner Agreement, Trading Partner Profile and Trading Partner Authorization forms available to enroll for Version 5010 transactions before testing begins.
What are your requirements for NPI?
Nebraska Medicaid will be fully implementing NPI along with 5010. Effective January 1, 2012, NPI, taxonomy code and zip + 4 (9 digit zip code) must be submitted for billing providers and NPIs are expected for all other provider identifiers. Atypical providers may continue to use legacy Medicaid Provider numbers. It is recommended that the EDI Website be checked frequently for updates.
Do you support SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) for submission of X12 HIPAA electronic transactions?
Yes, effective December 15, 2010, Nebraska Medicaid began supporting SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) for submission of X12 HIPAA electronic transactions. The X12 Submission Requirements Manual using Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) Version 2.0 is available on our website.
