In 1892, YRTC-K became a boys-only youth facility when a girls facility opened in Geneva, Nebraska. On January 1, 1997, YRTC-K ended a 23-year affiliation with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services. YRTC-K became one of 10 24-hour facilities under the Department of Health and Human Services.  YRTC-K is part of DHHS under the Division of Children and Family Services.
