Coping with the Von Maur Tragedy One Year Later

The anniversary of the December 5, 2007 shootings at the Von Maur department store in Omaha is likely to result in more thoughts, feelings, and memories about the event, even for people who weren’t there that day.

It’s common to feel grief and sadness again, but it’s important to remember that anniversaries can also give people and communities an opportunity for additional healing. It is a time to pause and appreciate family, friends, and others.

The Department of Health and Human Services wishes to honor family members, and the many people who came to the aid of the victims including emergency services personnel on the day of the event, as well as counselors, clergy, friends and community members who have expressed support to the survivors.
