Older Adult Falls
Nebraska Injury Prevention Program
Older Adult Falls
Falls remain the leading cause of injury and injury death for older Nebraskans. However, many falls are preventable. Falling is not an inevitable result of aging.
The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Injury Prevention Program seeks to help older adults maintain an independent lifestyle free of falls by emphasizing healthy habits and behaviors.
Through evidence-based interventions, practical lifestyle adjustments, and community partnerships, we can substantially reduce the number of falls in Nebraska. NDHHS works with community partners to implement programs including Tai Chi Moving for Better Balance and STEADI (Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths & Injuries).
