Omaha Employees to Be
Recognized as DHHS Employees of the Year

October is Nebraska State Employee Recognition Month

Lincoln— Two Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) employees in Omaha are being recognized as employees of the year.

Jamie Andersen, a child and family services specialist with DHHS’ Division of Children and Family Services and Paula Markuson, a social services worker with DHHS’ Division of Medicaid and Long-Term Care will be recognized as employees of the year.

October is Nebraska State Employee Recognition Month and each October state agencies are allowed to select one employee and one supervisor/manager of the year for every 500 people employed by the agency.

“These employees and supervisors are an inspiration to all of us and I want to thank them for their hard work and dedication,” said Courtney Phillips, DHHS CEO. “It is a true honor to be nominated by your peers for this recognition.”

Andersen’s coworkers said she has mentored several new staff members and she is “dedicated to making sure that new employees learn the skills necessary to keep children safe.” Her coworkers also noted that she is a problem solver and team player who is a great advocate for the children and families she serves.

Markuson was nominated by her coworkers for her compassion, experience, and her years of devoted service to the elderly and disabled population she serves. Her coworkers said she shows the “meaning of helping people live better lives” every day.

DHHS’ employees and supervisors of the year, including Andersen and Markuson, will be honored on Thursday, October 29 with a reception with Gov. Pete Ricketts at the Capitol Rotunda, a reception at the Governor’s Residence and a DHHS recognition at the Cornhusker Hotel.
