Child Care License of Columbus Provider Suspended
Lincoln—The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services has suspended the child care license of Sara Schmidt, doing business as Bright Beginnings Daycare, 2757 Eastbrook Drive, Columbus.
On June 24, charges were filed in the County Court of Platte County against Schmidt for three counts of child abuse, class I misdemeanors. She didn’t notify the Department of the charges pending against her, as required by the state’s child care regulations.
Schmidt’s license is suspended until the criminal charges are resolved. If the charges are not resolved in her favor, DHHS may take additional disciplinary action.
Schmidt has been licensed since October 2006 to provide care for 12 children, ages six weeks to 12 years. The suspension became effective August 5.
