Jeffrey Smith is New Administrator
of Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home in Bellevue

Lincoln – Jeffrey A. Smith of Pueblo, Colorado has been appointed as Administrator of the Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home (ENVH) in Bellevue effective July 1. ENVH is operated by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

“I’m pleased to have someone with Jeff’s leadership skills to help ensure quality services and create an environment that is truly a ‘home’ to those members of the Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home,” said John Hilgert, director of the Division of Veterans’ Homes in DHHS. “I look forward to working with him as we focus on providing the safety, dignity and quality of life that our veterans so richly deserve.”

Smith received a purple heart while serving in Vietnam. He has almost 30 years of experience with nursing homes, assistant living facilities and hospital systems. He has served as Long Term Care Administrator of a 100-bed rural nursing home in Rocky Ford, Colorado since 2008. Prior to that, he was administrator/executive director for nursing homes in Colorado, Montana, Virginia, Mississippi; chief executive of a 500-bed state veterans home in Minnesota; and he held a variety of administrative positions in skilled care and hospital systems.

"I am honored and privileged to once again serve veterans and their families,” Smith said. “I ‘m proud and look forward to working with a nationally-recognized veterans’ home system that has done so much to support and improve veterans health care."

Smith has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Gordon College, Wenham, MA and a Masters of Health Administration from the University of Iowa. He is a licensed nursing home administrator in Colorado, Montana, Virginia, Mississippi, Minnesota and Illinois.

He and his wife Esther have been married for 42 years. They have two grown sons and two grandchildren.
