Grand Island Veterans’ Home Recognized by Legislative Resolution

Lincoln – Senator Mike Gloor congratulated the Grand Island Veterans’ Home (GIVH) in Legislative Resolution 323, which he introduced in the Legislature today. GIVH is part of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

“I appreciate Senator Gloor’s recognition of improvements being made in providing quality care to our members and efficiently operating the facility, and appreciate the other senators who joined him on the resolution,” said Kerry Winterer, CEO of DHHS. “Employees believe it’s an honor to care for our nation’s heroes and I’m proud of their progress in so many areas. I especially want to thank Alex Willford for his leadership since becoming administrator last year.”

The Division of Veterans’ Homes includes the state Veterans’ Homes located in Bellevue, Norfolk, Grand Island and Scottsbluff. Services range from assisted living to skilled nursing care.

“The Grand Island Veterans’ Home focuses on wellness and allowing people to live their lives to the fullest extent possible,” said John Hilgert, director of the Division of Veterans’ Homes in DHHS. “A recent survey of Veterans’ Home members shows that nearly 90% would recommend their veterans’ home to others. That’s a positive affirmation that we’re on the right track.”
