Department of Health and Human Services to Hold Four Hearings May 6 in Lincoln

Medicaid and Public Health Licensure

Lincoln – These hearings will be held May 6 in the Nebraska State Office Building, Lower Level, Conference Room ‘A’, Lincoln, NE.

Public Hearing at 9:00 a.m. CDT

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Division of Medicaid and Long-Term Care is holding this hearing to accept comments on proposed changes to establish a Medicaid supplemental payment for services of physicians and other health care practitioners who are employees or contractors of the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) or its affiliated medical practices.

Public Hearing at 10:00 a.m. CDT

The DHHS Division of Medicaid and Long-Term Care is holding this hearing to accept comments on proposed changes to establish a Medicaid supplemental payment for covered dental services when services are provided or supervised by a faculty or staff member of the UNMC College of Dentistry.

Public Hearing at 11:00 a.m. CDT

The DHHS Division of Medicaid and Long-Term Care is holding this hearing to accept comments on proposed changes to establish a site-of-service differential that reduces the Nebraska Medicaid Practitioner Fee Schedule amount for specific physician services when provided in a facility setting. This change is being proposed to recognize that when a provider performs services outside the provider’s office setting, his/her practice costs are generally lower than when services are performed in the provider’s office.

Non-physician care providers include physician assistants, medical specialty assistants, medical services assistants, clinical associates, and surgical assistants who have received the required training.

Public Hearing at 1:30 p.m. CDT

The DHHS Division of Public Health is holding this hearing to accept comments on proposed changes to regulations for licensure of independent mental health practitioners and mental health practitioners and certification of marriage and family therapists, professional counselors, and social workers. The proposed changes will:

  • Revise the section on unprofessional conduct related to discrimination and competency;
  • Revise definitions of “client/patient or client system”, “qualified supervisor”, and “supervised experience/supervision”, and;
  • Require verification of lawful presence in the United States.

These regulations were previously considered at public hearings on July 3, 2008 and June 11, 2009. Items considered at the previous public hearings can be found on the DHHS website at http://www.dhhs.ne.gov/Pages/reg_hearings.aspx.

Anyone may attend and comment at the hearings or submit comments in writing. Written comments must be postmarked or received by 5:00 p.m. CDT, May 8, 2010.
