H1N1 Death Reported to DHHS

Note: A sound bite on this topic is available at: http://www.dhhs.ne.gov/Pages/audio.aspx

Lincoln – The Douglas County Health Department reported an H1N1 death to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

The Douglas County woman was in her 50s and had underlying health conditions. Because of state statutes, the name and other details about the person can’t be released.

“My thoughts are with the family,” said Dr. Joann Schaefer, Chief Medical Officer for DHHS. “It’s hard to lose a loved one, especially around this time of the year.”

“Flu activity has decreased in Nebraska, but we do want people to remain vigilant because flu can be very unpredictable and the season is far from over,” she said.

So far, there have been a total of 13 H1N1 flu deaths reported in Nebraska. DHHS will continue to track deaths from H1N1.
