DHHS Appeals Douglas County Juvenile Court Judge's Order

Lincoln – The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has appealed a Douglas County juvenile court judge's order to return seven children to non-relative foster care in Omaha.

The judge ordered the move on Wednesday. The children were left at Creighton University Medical Center on September 24 under Nebraska's Safe Haven law.

"We believe it is in the best interests of these children to stay together and live with a relative in Lincoln who cares about them," said Todd Landry, director of the DHHS Division of Children and Family Services. "They are happy to be together with family."

The other two children remain in shelter care pending a move to another relative.
