Norfolk Veterans’ Home to Plant a Tree to Honor Members
On Thursday, April 24, with Arbor Day only a day away, Norfolk Veterans’ Home members and staff will plant a tree as a tribute to members who died this past year.
During the ceremony, those members will be named and honored and a list of their names will be buried alongside the roots of a tree that will forever be a part of the Norfolk Veterans’ Home community.
The program, which starts at 1:00 p.m., will include a presentation of colors by members, an invocation and a short presentation by Lew Mashburn, Administrator of the Norfolk Veterans’ Home.
This will be the second year the Norfolk Veterans’ Home has honored its members with a tree-planting ceremony. Family members are invited to attend.
"Last year’s ceremony was a very moving and emotional experience," said Mashburn. "Planting a tree in honor of our members is a way to carry forward their names in a living tribute that will grow greater with the years and will always be a part of our community."
